How to Be an Excellent Nanny – Part 1: How Being Detail Oriented Helps Keep Children Safe

Picture this. It’s a beautiful breezy autumn day. You just picked up the kids from school and have taken them to the park for an hour or two before dinner. You sit on a bench and watch them play. One runs to the swings with her friends and the other starts playing basketball.

What if these areas in the park are in completely separate places? It’s important that you keep your eye on all of the children, of course. However, you can even go a step further and do more than just supervising them at the playground.

Get to know who they are playing with. Whether it’s a kid they just met at the park or someone you’ve seen multiple times, it’s important that you become acquainted with the other parents, guardians, and nannies of the other children. It’ll help you keep an even closer eye on the children in your care.

Introduce yourself to the other adults and get contact info. We are lucky to live in a world where cell phones and social media are prominent and contact info is easier to exchange than ever before. That way you have the names and numbers and even addresses of which the children in your care spend time with.

Being detail oriented like this will show the heads of the household that you are competent, attentive, and responsible. Most importantly, it’ll help keep the child or children in your care safe!

Stay tuned for the next edition of “How To Be An Excellent Nanny” next week!

Glenn began in the “family business” more than 30 years ago, by coming to work for his Father, Martin Greenhouse. He often recounts how nervous he was, when at 19 years old his Father forced him to pick up the phone and speak with David Suskind. This was to be the first of dozens of phone calls and meetings to come for Glenn……with Celebrity Clientele. Glenn considers himself very fortunate to have spent his life working at a job he truly loves and as he puts it: “earn a comfortable living at the same time.”
