Simple Tabber Example
What Did That Nanny Just Post On Social Media?

Social Media is here to stay. Let’s face it. It brings people together that you have lost touch with. It gives you a chance to share part of your life with people that are not near. It’s a great tool for networking and building your brand. It’s a way of being introduced to great recipes, workouts, DIY activities, all kinds of stores and small businesses, news, etc.

However, it is also a way to ruin wonderful business opportunities, especially in the household staffing field. No agency or parent wants to see a Nanny consistently stalking a page or cursing at people. No agency or client wants to see their Housekeeper half naked and giving a lap dance. No agency or client wants to see their Butler sending out hate tweets.

People think they know you based off of Social Media. Is it right? Not sure, but we certainly wouldn’t want to hire a Nanny that is talking about how they got f’d up the other night on Molly and woke up next to a person they didn’t know. Would you? Think before you post. Not saying that you shouldn’t be yourself, because you should.

You should be able to vent and post about things that are dear to you and you want to create awareness about. You should be able to post about a debate or national incident that is affecting you. You should be able to post a picture looking fantabulous.

However, if a representation of you is filled with hate and downright ignorance then that is a person that no employer would want in their home on a daily basis or with their children!

I am horrified at what I see other colleagues post online. I am most horrified that a lot of Nannies post pictures of their charges on Twitter all the time, that they post pictures of themselves going clothes shopping with their charges, they post pictures of their employer’s homes.
I find it all very upsetting, it is like the very people who are hired to shield the employer and their children from harm are the ones braking the employer’s and children’s security.
Maybe I am too old fashioned 🙁

Exactly!!!!! You are not old fashioned..just mindful. Thanks for posting.

    • I totally agree with you Spunky Nanny. It’s a matter of confidentiality for many families. We need to not only protect our families, but also ourselves. It’s something that sets a professional nanny aside from others.
Nannies need to realise part of the screening many parents will do is checking your social media accounts.

I own a service business and it is understood by my staff that this is not acceptable behavior. My staff are not allowed to bring their personal cellular devises into Customer’s home. All I can think of is the book by Truman Capote ” In Cold Blood “.

Spunky, you are a wise Nanny who clearly has respect for herself.
