There Are No Guarantees In Life!

In life, nothing is guaranteed except death. I believe a lot of candidates feel that when they meet with a staffing company that it automatically guarantees them a job. THIS is not true for many reasons. A staffing company can meet with you and present you to an employer that they feel you are suitable for. They can assist you with your resume, give you interview pointers, help with your presentation, etc. However, they cannot be YOU. If, and I mean if the employer decides to meet you, the only person walking into that interview is you. The energy you bring is a HUGE part in a hiring process.
 
If a job ad is written well and a candidate reads it thoroughly they will realize what they are qualified for and what they are not qualified for. You wouldn’t believe how many people call and ask “why didn’t you send me for this position?” After the placement specialist explains that they were looking for someone to drive and live-in and that is something you cannot do, they then understand. However, it was in the ad the entire time. If it wasn’t in the ad, then that is on the specialist for not providing that pertinent information.
 
The candidate should call or email their placement specialist if they see a posting or get an email alert for a job they KNOW they are qualified for. However, even after presenting you to the employer, it is not guaranteed you will be the one they choose. Many clients use other staffing agencies while they are looking and they may have picked their top 10 people and you weren’t chosen. It could be someone that had more experience, or have a college degree, their resume was prettier, and they went to cooking school and had pictures of their delicious family style meals in their package.
 
Now, let’s say that they do want to meet you and an interview is scheduled. You don’t get the position/trial. The client found someone else. There is no one to blame. This is the way things go in our industry. If the placement specialist gets any feedback from the employer that could be helpful for you in the future, of course they should let you know, but you cannot blame anyone. There are no guarantees in life.
 
Market yourself the best way possible, find other avenues to get yourself out there, and never sit and wait for anything to come to you. Most importantly, if the specialist tells you what is wrong with your resume or presentation…listen and fix it.
