We are receiving a lot of job orders from clients looking for Nannies who can also help their children with their homework. If you are a Nanny and have experience helping kids with their homework and studying, you should know that every kid is different and you must adapt to their personalities and how they absorb information. Knowing and understanding the kids in your care is a sure way to help them absorb what they’ve learned in school.
A lot of information that a child learns each day in school is based on memorization. Maybe it’s studying for a spelling test, filling out the map of the U.S., or knowing each element of the Periodic Table. Whatever the case, this is content a kid learns, absorbs, and memorizes.
A very effective way of getting kids to memorize or absorb what they have learned is to somehow link what they need to know to some of their favorite things or hobbies. Start with getting to know the kids. Each kid has different interests. For example, let’s say two kids are in your care. One is a girl who loves Disney movies. Another is a boy who loves a variety of video games. If you notice that the children are forgetting how to spell certain words repeatedly or forgetting a few states of the map, you can help them finally memorize what they are missing by linking certain letters or words to names of Disney characters or video game characters. This will stick in their minds and help them never forget!
Another benefit of linking schoolwork to hobbies is that it will help hold the children’s interest. You will soon find that they are paying more attention and are less hesitant to want to stop doing schoolwork.
Something that separates a good Nanny from a great one is the ability to teach. You have the power to help these children excel and grow. Therefore, you also have the power to inspire. Just like reading this has hopefully inspired you!
